Racing Sunday Aug
31st ...
The club is looking
forward to the Juniors Trophy day & also the Rookies Promotional day.
Juniors Light & Heavy will battle for the honour of Adelaides 1 , 2 &
3 in their classes.
Running the Yamaha J engine & at a kart & driver weight of 95kg &
also 115kg for heavies.
Rookies will no doubt be in their numbers , to show us the up & coming
drivers to watch for the future.
Again big entries are likely as Adelaide's lack of recent racing ,
should see drivers keen to get em out & go racing.
With Statesman Trophy & Woodsy dash for cash meetings in coming months
, we are sure to see drivers in preparation for these events too.
_________________________________________________________________________________
The Woodsy Dash for Cash ...
Entries are already strong for this event .
Noms were previously revised to Aug 17th , but again with no meeting , we
will extend the date . Be warned we can not keep extending, & to be safe,
my advise would be to post it to the club: ADKC PO Box 297 Salisbury
5108 ASAP !!
The closure date will remain at the Aug 31st race meeting but at the $100
fee & not at the $150 late closure fee.
There will be NO Late closure option now, ITS Aug 31st at
$100 or miss out racing.

What's gone on at the club while we wait to
go racing ...
The geny shed has had its hot air ducting
installed, with its air whirlies fitted.
The exhaust system will be fitted in coming weeks.
The food van has had some refurbishing, some ceiling light covers, some
shelving , some more stainless steel ,& some changes to improve storage .
A bar fridge has been purchased & installed in the van, ready for power to
the van to be installed soon.
The cage for the water pump is underway.
The type & model of pump has been chosen.
The lap scorers box has had a major clean, looking great inside now.
_________________________________________________________________________________
The story behind the Interclub challenge
...
About 7-8 years ago it all started.
A friendly challenge between the 2 "" local "" clubs.
Who has the best drivers when running at both venues???
Does 1 club's drivers know the other track exists????
The rules were formed.
5 karts min. had to start on the grid for race 1, for the class to be
eligible.
In every race , the Top 3 from Adelaide & the Top 3 from Angas get
their points added to their clubs total .
Drivers from other clubs can still race & are still eligible to be
winners on the day [ same as normal meetings ] its just the Adelaide &
Angas members whom have their points included in the challenge as well.
Example:
KT Light race 1
Angas members come 1st / 3rd / 6th / 8th / 9th
Adelaide members come 2nd / 5th / 10th / 12th
Other clubs come 4th / 7th / 11th
Points for Angas are 20 / 15 / 11 = 46 to go towards their total .
Points for Adelaide are 17 / 12 / 7 = 36 to go towards Adelaide's
total.
Round 1 & round 2 are combined & we have a winning club.
It's a great way to check at Angas by racing there & its great to see
some Angas drivers coming to Adelaide.
A friendly challenge but its pretty good to be able to hold up the
trophy plaque at the end & say we won.
Don't miss the big event this
Sunday !!!

Adelaide already looking towards 2009...
Our goal is to be using the clubrooms for
presentations by start of
2009.
When we hope to have power, lighting, painting, an air conditioner,
perhaps a new drinks fridge & carpark areas adjacent nicely sealed with
gravel all in place ready to move from the speedway area to our own
clubrooms again. Not wanting to do half a job this will be done as best
as we can & will finally signal Adelaide is ""Established "" .
Can't wait for this huge milestone.
2009 will be Adelaide's year of independence & establishment...
_________________________________________________________________________________
The 125cc Light Trophy day turned out for
the best in the end ...
The weather [ rain ] during the week was said
to been about 40 mm in
total at the track.
The guys worked hard Saturday & removed as much water laying about as
possible.
The track had absorbed a lot & this made grading difficult due to the
soft areas.
Wayne & Ray did a great job to enable us to be racing on Sunday .
We knew it would be not at its best, but the track maint team got it
looking pretty good as the day went on & as the wind began to slowly
dry off the wetter areas.
Adrian got the surrounds & lapscorers box all tidied up, Marie had the
toilets looking spotlessly clean as always [ she spoils us ]. Kenny &
Dwayne took care of bins / cans &
the speedway presentation area. Leo gave the infield & carpark areas a
mow & it was all coming together nicely.
Simon worked away behind the scenes laying a concrete slab & continuing
his work in areas towards getting the power system installed.
Just finishing ahead of the sunlight failing the club & officials /
volunteers did well to see all 60 races run. A credit there to Grantley
& the Grid girls & also Track Maint, who kept the racing moving along
with no down time. Also track maint, whom did 4 quick track grades on
the day.
The Ross Edwards-Set of Wheels raffle is almost sold out so it will be
quickly gone at the next meeting, also the regular raffle was a bit
slow so was carried over also to the coming meeting. Bit cold on Sunday
seems everyone was buying coffee & soup rather than raffle tickets.
_________________________________________________________________________________
Raffles coming up at Adelaide ...
2 great extra prizes will be raffled during
2008, on top of the normal
race meeting raffle prizes.
A little later we will raffle a set of 4 - Award winning ""Top Quality
"" Ross Edwards gokart wheels . That's 2 Frts [ with bearings fitted] &
2 x 7"" Rear wheels.
Limited to 200 tickets at $2.
Big thanks to my friend [ We go back to the 80s when Ross & I raced
bitumen mainly]
This guy has a great passion for karting also & has been full of support
for the Adelaide club.
Then late in the year, we have a voucher to the value of $500 worth of
Bridgestone/Firestone tyres. Buy some tyres for the car or the trailer
etc pay nothing if under $500. Buy some expensive low profiles, get 1st
$500 off the price. Who cant use some tyres???
Limited to 300 tickets at $2
Some great prizes & some great ways to support the club by buying
tickets.
You know the deal, it will all go straight back into the facilities,
for everyone to enjoy.

Sims Exhaust pipe winner at the KT Med
Trophy day ...
Congratulations to the winner of the Sims
Pipe at the KT Heavy Trophy day.
TROY STOJAKOVIC, KART No 32 from Adelaide.
Committee Meeting / Committee & members was to be April 29th .
This has been cancelled & will be on May 27th.

What time does Scrutineering close at
Adelaide ?? ...
9am is the correct
answer.
You must have paid your noms by then or at least be standing in
the que
at 9 am. If you are in the que the noms ladies will process you. Same
with the kart it needs to have been checked or at least in the que at 9
am otherwise in either case you are put ROF if you miss the close
off
times.
Why are there rules like this, otherwise we cant get racing as we
have
to cross out drivers, then re put them back, then redo the grid sheets
again etc. We have an obligation to get on with the event & would
like it to run smooth for the volunteers that do the processing &
running of the days racing.
Please do your bit, if that's not much to be prompt, organised &
assist by helping the event to be on time.
Briefing at around 9.15, again when called up, please assist by
turning
off the karts & ask anyone nearby to shut theirs down, so all
drivers
& CREW can hear the call & move towards the briefing area. Be the last
to get there & be the rudest, as its everyone else standing around
waiting on you & you are personally holding up the event.
Adelaide has always enjoyed its fairness & will always do what's right
for the majority & by those being fair, please continue with your
support in these small but important areas.

JUNIORS Running LIGHT OR HEAVY DIVISIONS
AT ADELAIDE.
After discussions with some of the Juniors /
parents representing both
Light & Heavy drivers,
The consensus is not to change weights on the day & possible gearing
changes to run some average weight at very short notice [ between 95 &
115 KG]
Drivers want to run their kart at its normal class weight at all
tracks. The club doesn't want juniors ringing up during the week trying
to work out whats running at what weight.
Question ::What if there are less than 5 entries in the 1 division .
Answer :: Using an example of say 7 light drivers & only 3 heavy
drivers [ less than 5 ] have entered.
Adelaide will combine the 2 into 1 race on
the day.
The Light drivers will always start at the front , with the heavy
drivers starting directly behind [ leaving no gaps ]
IE using the example above- Lights take grids 1 to 7 . Grid 8 is the
1st heavy driver.
If 5 heavy drivers appear on the day [ as some rear of fielders didn't
nominate ] The heavy class will run its own race, separate to the lights.
In the program therefore the grid positions will always be correct ,
whether running combined or running a separate race .
IE using the example above- IF you have Junior Heavy grid 1 in the
race program for the 1st race, It means if there are 7 lights , you
are starting on grid 8.
The 1st light & also the 1st heavy driver to finish will be deemed the
1st in their class & get the full 20 points each.
Adelaide will always provide 3 trophies for any Junior division EVEN
if there are 3 entries only , 2 for 2 entries etc .
Adelaide will provide 3 perpetual trophies at end of year for both
Junior divisions & points from every meeting [ except Club Champ ] will
go towards their total, irrespective of how many entered on the day of
any meeting.
The only exception is the club would expect a junior to have competed in
a majority of the race meetings [ suggested at 8 of the 11 programmed
min. subject to cancellation meetings etc]
This is the plan ahead for 2008 & has been done to show the support we
have towards the Junior drivers & there exceptional situation that they
can not run in other classes as the senior drivers have more choices to
do so . Also Junior can only run in Juniors , & can not run in both
divisions.
We hope for your support , agree this is a practical solution , in the
best interest for the Juniors , & will only lead to hopefully increased
Nos in the Junior fields quickly as at Adelaide we have put forward more
trophies than expected.
Note: Rear of fielders will always be at the
rear irrespective of what
division they are entered. IE A light rear of field will start behind
the field of heavies when the 2 weights are running together.

Sims exhaust chambers go that extra step
...
Greg, has recently commissioned a new
Performance DYNO., allowing him to get that extra H.P. out of your engine.
Now carby tunes & exhaust pipe combinations can be tuned together.
The winning combination of a sweet running engine with the highly tuned
exhaust pipe, is providing drivers the edge needed to win.
Coming very soon a Pipe tuned for the ""J"" Motor . Behind the scenes
race testing in other States has already seen podium drivers using this
new development in J Classes.
Check out the latest developments, click the link below:
"
Gregs Website "
_________________________________________________________________________________
Your chance to win a ""Sims "" exhaust
pipe continues in 2008 ...
At the following race meetings 1 lucky driver
will be awarded a free
exhaust pipe, tuned for the KT 100S engine.
April 13th = KT Medium Trophy
May 25th = KT Heavy Trophy
Sept. 21st = Statesman's Trophy
Nov. 9th = KT Light
Same as last year, members & non - members are eligible , drive hard
but drive fair, be a good sport & that's all it takes to catch the
drivers rep"s attention, as a worthy winner.
""You don't have to win on the day , to get a wining pipe.""
The Adelaide Club would like to thank Greg, for his support & his
approach to reward the drivers whom want to win but also drive fair.

Saturday the track has to be prepared for
racing Sundays ...
What's there to do ???? some say .
Those that have been there on Saturdays walk away surprised on how much
takes place.
Purchase fuel , fill the trucks, fill the water pumps, grease the
grader, get the tractor, shuffle about 40,000 litres of recycled water
from speedway to the kart track.
Water the track , rip it up with the grader, add more water, mix with
the tractor, regrade, roll the track down.
Then there's the pit & grid area to wet down , weeds to remove or
spray, tyres to straighten, bins to empty, cans to be sorted & stored,
rubbish to be picked up.
Fuel to be mixed for generator, noms & lap scorers boxes to be cleaned,
signs to be checked are all secure & fences to be checked..
These items are the minimum every race weekend .
Painting , repairing , modifying & rebuilding facilities also have to
take place from time to time . Especially as we try to find time to
continue to establish things like toilets & power.
A small team do this each meeting, it's a lonely place when there are a
few only to do so much , yet on race day we are always surprised to see
the hundreds that turn out .
Yes , That's a nice reward to see that the facility is being well used ,
but a few more offering some help would make lighter work of Saturdays.
If you can spend just a little while at the track on a Sat between 9.30
& 4.30, please it would be great

Working Bee -
We don't have these days as such, we do what we can when ever we can &
not just wait for a day where the weather may be no good.
This Sat from 9.30am if any one would like to help get a few things
ready & we have some painting to be done if enough help avail & some
general housekeeping to be done to have things looking great for Sunday
. A call to me (stewy cowling) or Mary would be great as we can plan things & equipment
if we know who is coming.
Also you can come prepared in old clothes etc if painting etc
This is the same on every Sat prior to a race meeting, we often need
helpers to assist getting the site ready. Please contact us if you can
donate some time or come & see what goes on on Saturdays, so you can
see what you can do to assist.

What lies ahead for 2008 ...
Importantly some good racing,
some considerate drivers, a great track &
facility to enjoy.
Facilities will continue to grow, as the club gains profit from meetings
& memberships -
The installation of the generator. [ Bought last year]
The generators intake ducting, & exhaust gas extraction to be built.
The metres of power cables & conduit to be layed underground to power
the club rooms, toilets & eventually the lap scorers box.
The finalisation of connecting wiring to circuit breakers to the
clubrooms, lights, power points, toilets etc.
The installation of a pump to run the toilets & trackside taps from
mains water now, to run off rain water in the future [ saving water on
the site]
Hopefully leading to the club having its presentations one day again
from its own clubrooms, something the historians of the club have
waited some time to see again, since leaving the old site at waterloo
corner.
Food & drinks will continue from the portable food van for the near
future if not always, this gives the club the best way to get food &
drinks as close as we can to everyone in the pit area, it also is the
most convenient way to bring food & drinks in & out of the site each
race meeting.

Know your surrounds at each track ...
The pit area means the area where Gokarts
must be within, from
scrutineering thru to the end of racing.
No kart can be worked on outside this area. Personnel must have signed
the insurance waver , for insurance reasons, when in the pit area.
For some clubs this means a fenced off area ,some use signs , barriers,
some have defined landscape points . For Adelaide , AIDKA have
defined a line from a fixed point.
In Adelaide's case it is from a corner of the tracks FIXED fence line .
This corner is the one just in front of the food van. This corner is
clearly sign posted to say you are entering the pit area . Insurance
wavers can be signed at either the main gate entry or at the Food van.
The line runs out indefinitely, at right angles to the tracks main
straight [Parallel to Supple Road ]
Where does the line end. This is clear, it ends after the furthest
Kart is pitted . There is no point in it being 200 meters longer than
needed if the last kart is not all the way down the back of the land .
The club & AIDKA have agreed the end of the pits is a Minimum 15 Meters
past the last kart inside the pit area. The track was inspected &
approved with this in mind. For those not wishing to be licensed they
can remain as public spectators & still enjoy the Food van , Grandstand
seating , toilets & car parking on the Speedway side of the line.
Can I smoke in the pits . Definitely not. No smoking is allowed in
""Pit areas "" So you must be either outside the pit line or up the back
of the pits AT LEAST 15 Meters away from the nearest KART / Trailer /
Pitted Vehicle if wishing to smoke. Common sense has been applied here
to ensure safety for everyone.
Adelaide approached AIDKA at the time of seeking track approval & it was
granted the raised mound area was not an area for Go karts to pit in , so
it was granted this could be a smoking area. This area is clearly marked
with signs also.
Can I get to this mound without passing thru the pit area??, NO,
therefore any one on the mound must have signed the insurance waver
notice.
All tracks have their own pit, scales , scrutineering & approved areas
, take time to know them if you travel from track to track , ask if
unsure as signs are not always picked up by all, no matter how many you
use or how big they are.
Adelaide is not the norm as it utilizes land serving dual purposes,
Speedway & also Karting .
AIDKA have worked close with the club & found workable solutions to the
challenges. We thank members & visitors whom understand & follow this
well at our race meetings.
Do the right thing by any club that you are a visitor to & you'll be
doing the best thing for the sport, AIDKA & the insurance companies
that allow the sport to take place.
Please guide others around you to become familiar to the surroundings.
_________________________________________________________________________________
The amazing Generosity of so many members
...
With so many things needed for the club to
rebuild it could not be done
by paying full price for everything.
Many thanks must go to so many that are offering things for free or at
great prices to the club.
Often people have these things lying around &
suddenly they come forward & say would the club need something like this
. Others have seen the need for something , have a friend or contact
they know in this area & next we are getting some real good bargains &
advice in areas sometimes we are not familiar in.
It's easier to build junky things that may do the job for a while , but
we are priding ourselves to build everything the best way we can.
_________________________________________________________________________________
YOUR CLUB , Did
you say ??????
That's right it
doesn't belong to any 1 or small group , it belongs to
every member for everyone to use & enjoy. The clubs progress &
facilities
being constantly increased & upgraded is proof that this club really
means '' All profits go back into the club"" Our goal is not one of a
high bank balance , but rather a facility for every member to use & be
proud of.
_________________________________________________________________________________
New members
wanting to help out ?????
Like any club , there
is a lot of work done behind the scenes, if you
would like to be involved, take on a job or just offer some help to
others doing the job currently, please come forward & see Myself [
Stuart Cowling] or Mary Caruso. The club has an impressive history of
achievement & going forward thanks to those whom have helped during
it's 20 plus years of racing . As some move on we are always looking
for
new members with enthusiasm & practical ideas.

Driver Tips ...
What to do when a RED
FLAG is shown?
There has been an accident on the track [ likely a roll over ] & the
last thing you need to create is a second crash.
Don't panic yourself & hit the skids , the kart behind is likely only
to
run into you.
Rather - Raise your hand immediately, this acknowledges you have seen
the flag & the driver up your tail gets an indication something is
wrong, as he may have missed seeing the flag. Then look ahead to see
how
far the accident is away so you can stop well before it.
Slow down as quickly as possible to stop in a reasonable safe
distance.
Try not to skid & loose control.
Try to stop to the
inside of the track
as this may mean a better access for an ambulance to drive on the
track. Once stopped check others are all stopped ,then try to get your
kart off or well out of the way ,again an ambulance may be coming
out.If
close & help may be needed to the injured driver do so if you feel
comfortable, if you are not close & or first aid attendants are
present
please avoid the area.
Do not bother the stewards or officials , their attention is for the
injured & need time to access the situation. Wait quietly or return to
pits if, or when asked.
Please ensure all Rookie & Junior drivers are given guidance by their
parents on what to do, prior to seeing their first red flag on the
track.
